Inditex, the owner of the Zara, Stradivarius, Pull & Bear, Massimo Dutti and Bershka brands, is returning to Ukraine after a two-year pause due to the difficult political situation. The reopening of stores in the country shows a gradual resumption of the usual rhythm of life in some Ukrainian cities.

According to the Ukrainian Retailers Association, Inditex is preparing to open stores in Ukraine, announcing their opening in early April this year. This is an important step that confirms the signs of a fragile «new normal» in some Ukrainian cities.

Inditex, which is the world’s largest fashion group by sales, has decided to return to Ukraine despite the difficult situation. It is one of the few companies that have not yet taken the risk of resuming operations in Ukraine. It should be noted that H&M has already resumed its operations in Ukraine in November 2023.

Inditex’s plans include opening 50 stores out of the 84 they have in Ukraine. The first 20 stores, including three in Kyiv, will be opened in April, but the opening dates for the rest have not yet been set.

According to reports, 34 stores will remain closed as they are located in areas directly affected by the war. The company promises to prioritize the safety of employees and customers, and is adapting its plans to market circumstances.

It is worth noting that all Inditex stores in Ukraine were closed in February 2022, the day Russia began its invasion. The company did not resume deliveries of goods to Ukraine, but continued to pay taxes and salaries to its Ukrainian employees.
